With the calm serenity of natural, muted interiors during the pandemic, people are beginning to be a bit more playful with their interiors…and now it’s all about the stripes in 2024. After several years of quiet plaster and monochromatic themes in design, we think people are craving a bit more visual impact and stripes are a natural first choice. Stripes in interiors give that punch but are still relatively easy to work with.
There are many aesthetic advantages to using this pattern. Vertical stripes make a room appear taller, whereas horizontal stripes make a room wider. Stripes are gender and age-neutral and it’s a style that is fitting for a nursery but doesn’t feel juvenile as the child ages.
Stripes are such a fashion staple, its great that they are transitioning to the interiors world – and they never really go out of fashion. Upholstery is a brilliant place for a bold stripe, but if you really want to take the trend to a new level, striped wallpaper or a striped paint effect is a great way to add impact to your home.
Whether your style is more classic and elegant or contemporary and relaxed, playing with the scale and colour of stripes can transform how a room feels. From the wide monochrome stripes through to the finer lines found in panelling, stripes make for one of the simplest yet most effective ways of adding interest to your interior design.
