We wanted to extend our pitifully small kitchen and make more of our living space.
Amanda turned out to be the lynchpin to our project. Not only did she have an architect and builder on her books – she had used them both for her own house – and the architect had used the builders for his project too. (Little did we know that we’d landed “Jam side up” – but we had.) project plans arrived and the whole thing began to take shape – Amanda was always there to support, advise and keep us on track. She has an excellent understanding of the life cycle of a building and design project – when to push us for decisions and when to ease off – perfect for those with demanding careers! The plans moved into council approval and our timescale began to accelerate. Amanda kept us on point with design plans, visits to kitchen builders and bifold door design. There were so many decisions to be made;- flooring, lighting, bathroom suites, ovens, hobs, placement of switches and sockets. Normal doors or pocket doors, door handles. The build started two weeks behind schedule and caught up. Each milestone was achieved and as the inside began to take shape, Amanda was always on hand to check quality and make sure the trades all understood what was needed – from the under floor heating engineers to the builders and floor fitters. There was a problem with tiling which Amanda proactively solved before we even noticed!
It was critical that the build finished on time as one of us had a hard core operation and lengthy recovery. It did! it was also so great to come back to a space which has been totally transformed and is so easy to live, and thrive in.
There was inevitable “Snagging” to be sorted out which Amanda coordinated with builders and decorators – all as part of the project lifecycle. She also negotiated goodwill discounts for tardy suppliers.
We’ve reflected often on the project – we get to do that everytime someone new comes to the house and we get to see their reaction ( It always starts with “Wow! I love the colours/space/layout etc”). Amanda was the key and her experience, contacts and expertise have meant that we have a stylish, light, amazing and surprising space to live, work and thrive in.
