There’s something I love about this time of year – the changing leaves, cosier evenings and those beautiful warm, earthy colours that seem to appear everywhere you look. And perhaps it’s all this autumnal inspiration that has made me start looking at orange in a completely different way…
I’ll admit, I’ve had a bit of a love-hate relationship with it! Years ago, I was persuaded by my husband to paint a wall in our kitchen orange. It lasted two days before I painted it back again! Fast forward 10 years, a house move and discovering some much warmer, earthier shades of orange, and I’m starting to have a rethink… just don’t tell my husband or I’ll definitely get ‘I told you so!’
Orange can be such a warm, welcoming colour when you get the right shade. From soft terracotta and earthy rusts to rich burnt orange, it can add depth and personality without feeling overwhelming.

Start with a little bit of orange
If you’re not ready to commit to orange walls or a statement sofa, try introducing it through accessories. A burnt orange throw, warm-toned lamp or patterned rug can be enough to bring the colour into your scheme without it taking over.
Make a statement
If you love colour, why not be a little braver? An orange sofa can become the starting point for a whole room scheme, particularly when teamed with warm neutrals, natural textures and plenty of contrast.

Don’t forget the lighting
Lighting is such an important part of any room and it’s another lovely way to introduce warmer tones. A statement floor lamp or table lamp can add colour while creating a softer, more inviting atmosphere in the evening.

And remember, it’s not about following a trend. Your home should work for you and the way you live. If orange makes you happy, find a way to make it work – whether that’s a whole room or simply a few carefully chosen pieces.
