This month marks a very special milestone for Amanda Campbell Interiors – 10 years in business…sometimes I have to pinch myself that Amanda Campbell Interiors has been going for 10 whole years.
Ten years of designing homes, meeting wonderful clients, working with some incredibly talented suppliers and trades, and doing something I genuinely love every single day.
When I look back at where it all started, I don’t think I could ever have imagined where I’d be now.
How it all began
Before interiors became my business, I was lucky enough to have what I honestly think was a fabulous job during the heyday of retail.
I worked as a Regional Visual Implementation Manager, designing window schemes and working on interiors, predominantly on new-builds and store modernisations across the UK and Ireland.
I was involved from the initial build right through to opening – bringing new concepts and designs to life, dressing stores, working with mannequins, creating visual displays and travelling all over the country doing it.
It really was a brilliant job. I loved the creativity, the people, the travel and the buzz of seeing an idea go from a concept on paper to a finished store.
Then, as the retail industry began to decline, I was made redundant.
At the time, I had already been thinking about setting up my own interior design business for a few years. I’d studied Interior Design and always had that little voice in the back of my head saying:
“What if I just went for it?”
So, redundancy gave me the shove I needed.
And then came the slightly crazy bit…
Seven months pregnant with Molly, I took on my very first full-house renovation project.
I completed the design before she was born – and somehow, I’ve been doing this ever since! That first project was the beginning of Amanda Campbell Interiors, and 10 years later, I’m still here. There have been some incredible highs, some challenges, plenty of late nights and moments where I’ve wondered what on earth I was doing!
But year after year, the business has continued to grow and evolve.
Learning, adapting and growing
Then came lockdown.
Like so many businesses, I had to adapt. But it also showed me just how valuable virtual interior design could be. Being able to offer virtual services meant I could continue working with clients and helping them with their homes from my own home, even when face-to-face design wasn’t possible. Virtual interior design has remained an important part of Amanda Campbell Interiors ever since, allowing me to work with clients across the UK.
Over the years, I’ve also developed the services I offer, from virtual colour consultations and finishing touches through to complete room designs, 3D visualisations and more bespoke projects. But although the business has changed and grown, the heart of what I do hasn’t.
It’s always about you
For me, good interior design isn’t simply about making a room look beautiful. It’s about creating a home that works for the people who live there. How do you use the space? What do you need from it? What doesn’t work for you at the moment? What do you love? And how do you want your home to feel? Every client is different, which is why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I want the spaces I design to feel personal, considered and, above all, practical for real life.
The reality of running your own business
Running your own business is hard. You never really switch off. There is always an email to answer, a quote to write, a supplier to chase, an idea to think about or something sitting on the never-ending to-do list!
But the positives far outweigh the negatives.
Being able to build a business around my life, have flexibility for Molly, spend time with my husband, walk Bingo, work on projects I genuinely love and meet so many wonderful people along the way…I wouldn’t change it. And I still have moments where I stop and think:
“I actually did this.”
10 years wouldn’t have been possible without you
When you run a small business, you quickly realise how important the people around you are. So, to every single client who has trusted me with their home, every supplier and trade who has supported me, every person who has recommended me, shared my work, left a review, sent a lovely message, celebrated a win or simply been a cheerleader for Amanda Campbell Interiors…Thank you.
You have all played a part in getting me here, and I genuinely wouldn’t be here without you. Ten years in business is a pretty special milestone, and I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve built. I’m proud of how much the business has grown, proud of the homes I’ve been lucky enough to work on and incredibly grateful that I get to do something I’m passionate about for a living.
So here’s to 10 years of creating beautiful homes, following my passion, taking a few risks, learning A LOT along the way and hopefully another 10 years of doing what I love.
